Paediatric Snapshot
Papua New Guinea is located north of the Australian mainland; the country’s geography is diverse and, in places, extremely rugged. A spine of mountains, the New Guinea Highlands, runs the length of the island of New Guinea. It is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. There are 839 known languages of Papua New Guinea, one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world.[5] As of 2019, it is also the most rural, as only 13.25% of its people live in urban centres.[14] Most of the population of 10,329,931 people live in customary communities.
